What this policy covers

This policy explains the current BandName.io website and its naming tools. You can use the generator without creating an account. The website does not have account profiles, payment collection, a mailing list, or a contact form.

Generating names and using keywords

Names are generated locally in your browser using word lists and rules. The generator does not send your keywords to an AI model or naming API. Unsaved results are not stored in an account or a server-side shortlist.

Generating a batch updates the page URL with a seed, filters, and any keywords you used. The name checker can also put the name being checked in its URL. Updating the URL locally is not itself a network submission, but loading, reloading, or opening that URL can send it to the service delivering the website. URLs may also be retained in your browser history. Do not enter confidential information as a keyword or a band name.

Favorites and browser storage

Your shortlist uses localStorage, a storage area in your browser, under the key band-name-studio:favorites:v1. It contains up to 200 saved names.

Favorites are not uploaded to a BandName.io account or synchronized by this website between devices. They remain until you remove them, clear the site's browser data, or your browser removes them. Private browsing and storage restrictions may prevent persistence.

Remove individual entries in Your shortlist, or clear site data in your browser settings to erase the stored list. A text export is a file you save on your device; deleting browser data does not delete an exported file or a copy you have shared elsewhere.

Copying, sharing, and external searches

Copy controls write the selected name, shortlist, or share link to your clipboard. When supported, the share control may open your device's sharing interface. A shared batch link contains its settings and keywords, not your saved favorites. Anyone with the link can see those settings and reproduce the batch.

Opening a Spotify, Bandcamp, Google, ICANN, or registrar search link sends the name or domain in that link to the destination service. Instagram searches use Google with an Instagram site filter. Those services process your visit under their own privacy policies. The generator does not contact them to check names in the background.

Website delivery and technical information

Loading a website requires a network request. Hosting and security services can receive technical information such as your IP address, requested URL, browser information, and request time to deliver pages and protect the service. A URL can include the query parameters described above. Local name generation does not make ordinary web requests anonymous or prevent infrastructure logs.

Cloudflare describes its handling of visitors to customer websites in its privacy policy. Provider retention and processing depend on the services and settings in use; this website does not promise that technical logs are never created or immediately deleted.

Optional Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which tools people use and which interactions are useful. On your first visit, you can accept or reject optional Google Analytics without blocking access to the naming tools. Before you accept, and while your choice is rejected, this website does not load the Google Analytics script or send its measurement requests. You can change this choice using Analytics preferences in the footer.

Your choice is stored in localStorage under the key bandname:analytics-consent:v1, together with an expiry time, for 180 days. After the choice expires or you clear the stored preference, we ask again. This preference record is separate from your saved names and does not contain your shortlist.

If you accept, Google receives analytics requests and associated technical information from your browser. These requests help measure page visits and actions such as generating names, copying, saving or removing a favorite, sharing, using the shortlist, and opening name or domain search links. Google explains its processing in its privacy policy.

Information in our analytics events

Our manually configured events use fixed categories and numbers, such as a selected genre, word count, action type, item count, or destination service. We do not include generated names, your keyword text, seeds, saved-name contents, clipboard contents, or complete outbound search URLs in those event fields.

The page address we pass to Google Analytics excludes query parameters and fragments. The referrer we pass is reduced to its origin, such as a website's scheme and hostname, rather than the full referring address. This also means we do not retain custom campaign attribution from UTM query parameters. These measures apply to the events configured by this website; they do not remove the URL from your browser history, a link you share, or hosting requests described earlier.

Analytics cookies and withdrawing your choice

After you accept, Google Analytics can set first-party cookies such as _ga and _ga_* to distinguish browsers and sessions. We configure a one-year cookie expiry and disable renewal of that expiry on each page load. Browser settings can shorten or prevent cookie storage.

If you withdraw acceptance in Analytics preferences, we disable Google Analytics measurement, stop sending our events, and clear accessible first-party Google Analytics cookies for this site. The Google script may remain loaded in the current page, but measurement is disabled. Withdrawal affects future collection; it does not erase information already received by Google. You can also clear this site's cookies and local storage through your browser settings.

We do not run advertising on this website. Google advertising storage, advertising user data, and advertising personalization consent remain denied even if you accept analytics.

Separate Cloudflare Web Analytics

The hosted website also uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, enabled separately through the hosting service. It provides aggregate information about page visits and page performance. It is separate from Google Analytics and is not switched on or off by the Google Analytics preference described above.

Cloudflare describes this service in its Web Analytics documentation. Aggregate reporting does not mean that ordinary delivery requests never contain technical information or that infrastructure logs cannot exist. Cloudflare's processing and retention depend on the service and settings in use, as explained in its privacy policy.

Changes to these practices

We will update this page if the services, analytics settings, or information collected by the website change. The date at the top identifies the latest revision.

Contact and privacy questions

Contact the operator of BandName.io at contact@bandname.io for privacy questions or requests. When you email us, your email provider and ours process the message; we receive your address and the information you choose to include so we can respond. Please send only the details needed for your question.

We cannot access or recover the shortlist stored in your browser. You can remove that data yourself using the controls described above. If you contact us about other personal information, explain the request without sending unnecessary sensitive details.
